If you have one of the Bob Parker designed , Dick Smith Electronics ( Australian kit ) ESR meters and you would like to add a Low Ohms buzzer ( as with the Capacitor Wizard ) read on . Parts list :- BC182 ( or similar small signal NPN type ) 10k resistor 4k7 resistor 1N4148 diode ( or similar ) Piezo Transducer The 4k7 resistor is connected to pin 11 IC3 ( the Anodes of the decimal point LED's ) and then to the base of the BC182 , the emitter of the BC182 is connected to the Anode of the 1N4148 , the Cathode of the 1N4148 connects to the junction of Q13 Base & Q12 Collector , the Collector of the BC182 is taken via the 10k resistor to 5v and the Piezo Transducer is connected across the 10k resistor ( IE one connection goes to 5v and the other to the BC182 Collector ) . When the meter reading is below 1 Ohm the buzzer should sound , when the reading is between 1 Ohm & 9R9 the buzzer should sound , but almost inaudibly . If you want the buzzer to sound on all readings below 10 Ohms , remove the 1N4148 diode and connect the emitter of the BC182 directly to 0v . If you don't want the buzzer to sound at all on readings above 1 Ohm , insert a 1k resistor between Q13 Base & Q12 Collector , connecting the 1N4148 Cathode to the Q12 Collector & 1k resistor junction . I've not actually tried this myself but it should work - in theory anyway !
